September 23, 2015 – Day 7 – Iceland Trip
Today was our only day driving out on our own, we drove 4½ hours from Reykjavik to Akureyri. It was an absolutely gorgeous drive, so gorgeous that we had to stop a few times to take in the scenery.

We checked in to out hotel for the night, Icelandair Hotel Akureyri, a cute well kept hotel in the cute little town.
We did lunch at Blaa Kannan and some walking around before we met up with our tour guide in the mid-afternoon.
Stop One: Goðafoss
The first stop on the tour was Goðafoss; where legend has it Iceland’s heathen priest threw his idols after converting the country to Catholicism.

Stop Two: Skutustadagigar
Pseudo-craters! Pseudo-craters everywhere!!!
Stop Three: The Black City
Next, the Black City
Stop Four: Grjotagja Cave
Fourth stop Grjotagja Cave
Stop Five: North American and European plates
Along the route we stopped where the North American and European plates are diverging. David standing on both and Luke warming his hands.

In this same area, we checked out a natural bakery, natural steam is used by local farmers to bake bread in the ground, before Námaskarð.
Stop Six: Námaskarð
COming

Stop Seven: Hverir
We next hit up a fart plantation, Hverir. Not really, but if there were such a thing that’s what this place would smell like.

Stop Eight: Myvatn Nature Baths
We take a break from our tour to have dinner with our guides at Vogafjós Restaurant. Afterwards, time for an amazing swim under the star at Jarðböðin við Mývatn (Myvatn Nature Baths). Nice, hot nature bath my soul mate.

Stops Nine through Ninty: Northern Lights
We drove and drove, and drove some more. Our guide was on the hunt for some northen lights. Finally!! We have some Northern Lights!!! Barely, and I mean barely visible by the naked eye.
