Reno, NV – December 2015

This trip to Reno was a 5-day work trip for me.  Monday was a long day of flights from Chicago to LAX (4.5 hour flight), with a 2 hour layover, followed by the last leg to Reno (1.5 hour flight).  I’m a Delta fan but David is an American, so being married has further enhanced my abilities to compromise.  When I had flown American in the past for work it seemed that I was always in the back of the plane or in a middle seat because my work didn’t allow for ‘upgraded’ seating.  On this flight, American treated me okay.

Once in Reno I picked up my Hertz rental car and headed straight to my lodging, the Whitney Peak Hotel.  The hotel was was urban clique with concrete floors and some artwork that wasn’t tacky hotel art for once.  After I got settled in, I FaceTime’d my Sexy Boots (I’ve been waiting all day to see my man!) and walked to The Depot Craft Brewery Distillery for dinner.  I probably should have driven since I had to go through a couple of destitute blocks; it appeared as if the homeless situation in Reno is worse than back in Chicago.  Dinner was good, not great; the depot burger had good flavor and was accompanied by some well-seasoned fries.  DepotI had one of their craft brews, the Voyager, and the American IPA was quite nice.  I considered taking home a growler of it to share with David but alas did not.  Bringing home growlers has never bothered me, I just make sure to wrap it in a well tied garbage bag should it decide to spew its contents all over my luggage, but there have been no problems yet.  After dinner I took the walk back to the hotel and called it a night, though it was only around 9p, the time zone change got to me.

No time for breakfast, let the rush to work begin.  For lunch I tried Heritage, located within my hotel.  The pulled chicken sandwich was okay, nothing special to write about here either, and the fries were typical restaurant fries.  I following lunch up with some light gambling.  Wonder Woman SlotLinda Carter treated me right, I deposited $20, was up to $200ish but left with $60.  I ended up getting called back in to work so Linda and I parted ways.  After work it was a bit late so I went back down to the Heritage.  I mosied up to the bar at about 8:55pm not knowing they closed at 9, there were still quite a few people drinking and dining.  When the bartender approached I noticed he took a quick look at his watch, I recognized the queue and asked what time they closed.  He handed me the food menus and went tend bar.  I pulled out my phone and started looking for other places for dinner, a minute or two later when the bartender came back I let him know I was looking for somewhere else and wouldn’t be inconveniencing him, I didn’t want to delay him from leaving on time.  He insisted I stay, which I obliged, ordered some quick bar snacks (Nachos and Wings) and a dirty martini, shaken, not stirred.  The Nachos were amazing, no skimping on the ingredients.  I LURVE good nachos!  The wings were good as was the martini.  Time to go back to the room.

Now, it’s Wednesday, and I’m ready to get back home.  I haven’t been able to find any time to do anything other than gamble and eat.
